Movement Type

When a user enters the goods in the system, he has to enter the type of the movement in order to differentiate between goods movements. It is a 3-digit number. Below are some of the movement types in SAP inventory management.

Now, let us see how this is handled in SAP. To reach the movement type, follow the below path:

  • Go to Logistics
  • Choose Materials Management and go to Inventory Management
  • Select Goods Movement and Goods Movement (MIGO)

  • Select GR Goods Receipt from the drop down
  • Choose the type of movement according to your need

Goods Receipt

This is the phase in which the materials are received and verified by the quality team. Based on the movement type, the stock is posted in the inventory using goods receipt. Goods receipt has two scenarios: creation of goods receipt and cancellation of goods receipt.

  • Go to Logistics
  • Choose Materials Management and go to Inventory Management
  • Select Goods Movement and Goods Movement (MIGO)

  • There are various ways to post goods receipt; based on their need, they can choose the required document from the drop down. Here, we will choose Purchase Order and select the movement type according to that

  • This will grab details like material quality, plant etc. Select the check tab to check the document and save. This will generate a material document number, and the goods receipt is now posted against a purchase document.

Reservation

At some point in time, some goods or materials have to be blocked for future use. This is known as reservation. This ensures that the goods are available whenever it is required. Let us see how this can be done.

  • Go to Logistics
  • Choose Materials Management and go to Inventory Management
  • Select Reservation and then go to Create

  • Enter Base date, Movement Type, and Plant for the required goods

  • You will get a Reservation pane, in it, enter all details like order number, material, quantity, etc.
  • Click on Save; now, your goods will be reserved

Goods Issue

Goods issue can be anything like damage in goods, withdrawal of material, returning of goods, etc. This decreases the number of goods in the warehouse. This can be done as follows:

  • Go to Logistics
  • Choose Materials Management and go to Inventory Management
  • Select the Goods Movement and Goods Movement (MIGO)
  • Select Goods Issue from the drop down
  • One can choose the required document (here, we will choose the purchase order) and the movement type

Good issues

  • This gathers all related information like material, quantity, plant, etc.
  • Select the check tab and click on Save
