In Complementary filtering, the system learns the possibility of two or more outcomes being redeemed together. Let's say when a user purchases a smartphone from any online store, it is more feasible that the same person will buy a set of headphones on a return visit, rather than another smartphone. The algorithms are totally based on suggesting products that are paired with other products. The most commonly used algorithm is the Naïve Bayes algorithm for complementary filtering.
