What is data science meaning

I am hearing this term data science everywhere. What is this actually?

Is it a subject or a domine name. Where is it used?. Do we need any background knowledge to learn it?

Data science is nothing but the "studying of data" and to study that data we use science such as statistics models etc., These days where ever we see we have data every wear. Well when we want to perform many things on data and predict, we need to have some kind of programming language so R and Python come into the picture. These two languages are good at handling datasets of various formats. for example text data, CSV data, image data, etc.

Coming to the question do we need any background subject to learn?

You need not have much knowledge but if you have some minimum knowledge of programming and statistics then it's great.

Data science is used every were for example marketing to know trends, in Gmail to know spam or ham, and in google for spell check.
