Can anyone tell me whether Python is a scripting language?

Basically, all scripting languages come under the programming language category. However, the difference between the two is that scripting languages need to be compiled before the execution process, while programming languages do not need to be compiled before the execution. Coming to Python, it is considered as both a scripting language and a programming language.
