Yes, DevOps Engineer has to write code, but there is no compulsion.

DevOps engineers have to write code for automation or even to improve the code to be deployed. However, not all DevOps engineers have to write code. In my current profile, we don't work on the direct product code. However, we code and script for most of the tasks that we do on a regular basis, we also write tools, utilities, plugins for some products like Jenkins, etc.

So all in all, writing full-fledged code is not an essential part of being a DevOps/SRE, however, at least mid-level scripting is often needed.

Most popular languages for that maybe any; python, Java, GO Lang, groovy, Perl, etc.

Want to become an expert in DevOps? Then I would recommend you to join the DevOps training course from Intellipaat which offer you with 33hrs of online training course along with 60hrs of projects and exercises.
