PRIORVALUE may not be used in this type of formula

I was trying to use the formula for PRIORVALUE but it is throwing an error :

PRIORVALUE may not be used in this type of formula

Can anyone help me with this?

Basically, PRIORVALUE can only be used with workflow rules, so if you try to work it on the formula field, then it will not work. So go for workflow rules.
