The failed request can be recovered by storing it in a queue or with the help of exponential back-offs. Cached content are retrieved in case of front-end interfaces to avoid complete fail-over, like unavailable database servers. If the primary site gets unavailable, Amazon Route 53 routes the traffic to a backup site. Backup sites can be hosted as a static website on AWS s3 or as dynamic website.
