In AWS a Region is a physical location where it has multiple data centers. Each group of logical data centers is an AZ (Availability Zone). Each Region consists of multiple separate AZ's within a geographic area. AZ’s are physically separated from any other AZ, but all are within 60 miles (100 Km) distance.
