Yes, of course, any candidate willing to work as a data analyst is possible, if he/she is willing to put time and effort in the right resources. It doesn’t matter if you belong from mechanical or any other stream of engineering, as long as you have the necessary skillsets in hand not only in the field of data analytics but any IT field for that matter. To get into Data analytics, you need to have certain things, which I will mention below for your reference:

  1. Since you are from a mechanical background, so you have the skill in math and a good amount of ideas in statistics. If not, learn math and statistics, as they combined to form the core of data analytics.
  2. Then you need to have some basic skills like SQL, Excel, etc.
  3. Then a programming language knowledge is compulsory. You could choose either R or Python for that matter.
  4. Data visualization software varies from company to company. So, if in case you require one, you could choose Tableau or Power BI for that matter.

That’s it your requirements are complete. If you wish to learn and get skilled to become a fully proficient Data analyst, I would suggest you enroll in a good data analytics course. Also, check out our YouTube video on Data analytics for beginners to help you get started.
