Any measure in the data set is given a position (rank) using the rank function.

There are multiple methods offered by Tableau for ranking measures which include:

  • Rank: Aggregated measure and ranking order, which is optional having the default value, are the two inputs that the Tableau rank function receives.

  • Rank_dense: This also receives two inputs i.e. aggregated measure and ranking order. But this gives the same rank to the same values while also continuing to increase with the additional values.

  • Rank_modified: Similar values are given the same rank using the rank modified function.

  • Rank_unique: Each and every value is given a unique rank using the rank unique function.

If you seek to gain more knowledge about Tableau and its fundamentals, then it is recommended to go for Intellipaat’s tableau online course which covers all the topics to help you become an expert in this tool.

You can verify this course by viewing the success story of Narayan Shankar Bhat, an ex- Intellipaat learner who benefited from this course.
