Could someone tell me why C is called a middle-level language?

C is often referred to as Middle-level Language and is correct in all terms. Because C Language kind of bridges or binds the gap between machine-level language or lower-level language and high-level language. And as we know, we can use C to not only do system-level programming but also, application-level programming.
