Java error opening registry key

Question

Below is the error I get in Java command prompt after reinstalling JRE: 

Error opening registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment.3'

Error: could not find Java.dll

Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this?

Remove any java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.exe from your Windows\System32 folder and do the same for Windows\SysWOW64.

You can also delete from the below path: 

C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath.
