I am getting an error while connecting to Azure SSAS server in Power-BI. In Power-BI, I am selecting SQL Server Analysis Services database as a data source and I am selecting Import mode. then it is throwing me an error- "The server parameter must be a valid hostname or HTTP URL." If I use 'Live connection' mode then I am able to connect but I want to do it from 'Import' mode.

so how can I get HTTP URL for SSAS server?

After going through your query, what I understood is that you are trying to connect to Azure Analysis Services. i.e the one where you connect to asazure://). Here are few things which i suggest

  • You have to make sure that you are using the latest Power BI Desktop installed.
  •  Make sure that in Power BI, you are using the correct authentication type. i.e Organizational account.
  • Go to File->Options->Data source settings->Global permissions.
  •  Then see if you are able spot your asazure:// data source listed. In case you are able to do it, left-click on it and then click the Clear Permissions button, which will cause Power BI Desktop to prompt you for credentials next time. You can ensure to choose the proper authentication in this way. Move on to the next step, if your asazure:// data source is not there,
  • Click Get Data and choose Analysis Services. Now paste in your asazure:// into the Server textbox and check Import and click OK. Then on the next screen choose the Organizational Account tab on the left. Then click Sign in and choose an Azure Active Directory account. i.e Organizational account, which has permissions to your model. Then click Connect.
