Tableau Desktop has 24 default visualizations under "Show Me" option. From there you can select the chart that you want for the visualization. But for now we will stick to side by side bar chart, for this chart you can use 1 or more Dimensions and 1 or more measures. for example we will take the default data set of tableau  (Sample Superstore data set), and if you want to visualize the Profit and Sales across different Regions and Sub categories in side by side bar chart.

So for that you need to drag and drop the Regions, Sub categories, Profit, Sales in the tableau worksheet as shown below:

After that click on show me and select side by side bar chart then you can see the visualization as shown below:
