Data science is a comprehensive term for a variety of models and methods to get information. Under the umbrella of data science is the scientific method, math, statistics, and other tools that are applied to analyze and manipulate data. If anything that is a tool or process done to data to analyze it or get some sort of information out of it, it likely falls under data science.

Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence that is responsible for giving computers the ability to learn about newer data sets without being programmed explicitly. It focuses essentially on the development of several computer programs that can transform if and when exposed to newer sets of data. Machine Learning is a popular application of AI-based around the idea that we should just be able to provide machines access to data and let them learn for themselves.

On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence is the more comprehensive concept of machines being able to carry out tasks in a way that we would recognize “smart”. AI comprises of machines that can perform tasks that are characteristic of human intelligence. It includes tasks like planning, understanding language, recognizing objects and sounds, learning, and problem-solving.
