EBS and local instance store

Question

What is the difference between using the local instance store and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) for the root device?

The local instance store will provide you with the cache memory for frequent access of the data. You can also create a cache memory using ebs but the working will be slow and this data will be lost once you terminate the instance.
