When I am working with my project in debug I am not facing any issues. However, while running it in IIS I am getting this following error:

The solution I can find through Google is to change the application pool advanced Identity settings which didn't work.

I'm using the IIS 7.5 and I'm connecting to the SQLServer 2012 and my connection string is below..

Connection String:

<add name="_DataConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=01DEV\SQLDEV01;Initial Catalog=_Data;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True;Application Name=EntityFramework"
  providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Assuming you are intending to use the Windows Authentication to impersonate the service account, you need to set up the Windows Authentication in both IIS and ASP.NET.

In IIS, make sure that the Windows Authentication module is added and then enabled. Additionally make sure your application pool is running under a domain account, not a local account.

In ASP.NET make sure that the authentication mode attribute is set to "Windows"

<system.web>
    <authentication mode="Windows"/>
 </system.web>

If you plan to use Windows Authentication to mimic the service account, you must configure Windows Authentication in both IIS and ASP.NET.

Ensure the Windows Authentication module is included in IIS and turn it on. Furthermore, ensure that your application pool is operating using a domain account instead of a local account.

Ensure that in ASP.NET the authentication mode attribute is configured as "Windows".

<system.web>

<authentication mode=”Windows”/>

</system.web>

The problem is that your application is trying to connect with SQL Server using the machine account (DOMAIN\NAME-PC$) because of the Integrated Security = True in the connection string

This happens only when the application pool in IIS is running under a machine account that does not have the access to SQL Server

Here is the solution of this problem

1. Firstly, grant permission to the IIS user account:

  •  Open your SQL Server management Studio
  •  Add DOMAIN\NAME-PC$ as Login in SQL Server
  •  Grant the permission to the target database

2. Use specific User Account in IIS:

  •    move to IIS Manager then application pool
  •    Right click app’s pool then Advanced Settings
  •    Set identity to account
  •       Upgrade SQL server to allow this user

3. Use SQL Authentication:

  •   Update the connection string to use User ID and password in place of Integrated Security = True
