SQL Server 2014- can't connect to local db - can not find server

I have installed the SQL Server 2014 Management Studio and when I tried to connect to my local database server, I am getting this following error:

What would be the problem, and what can I do to solve it?

Set the correct instance name and make sure that in the Services, the SQL server service is running. If it is not running then select the appropriate service and start it.
