I can say the steps for the SQL Server 2008, I believe the process is the same for the 2012 version as well.

First, open the SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS).
Then log into a SQL Server instance, right-click on the "Databases", and select "Restore Database".
A wizard will show up, you need "from device" which will allow you to select a .bak file.
