Could someone tell me what is Android?

Android is an OS for mobile handsets that may be mobile or laptops, developed by Google and many other tech and hardware companies, (under Open Handset Alliance, 2007). Android is based on Linux Kernel and other open-source software. It cannot be said as Linux based, as it uses only Linux kernel and nothing else, unlike other Linux Distros (Distributions) which uses Linux Kernel and other pieces of software.

Android is the biggest Operating System for Mobile devices in use around the world and is installed in almost all major mobile companies’ mobiles, except for Apple.
