That's a good question because nowadays with the 'data science' bandwagon everyone wants some quick buck without knowing where they heading to. I could tell my motivations to choose machine learning more than a decade ago:
- Can computers take decisions (even smart smarter ones) just like humans?
- Can computers help humans in doing their tasks of daily living?
- Can we build a smart eco-system where users get feedback and systems can update their actions?
- Can we develop techonlogy to learn from human behaviour?
Those were some higher level questions. To answer them, we need tools and ML is one of that important tool for me to explore these answers.
