For a novice programmer, GitHub is not recommended at all. 

What are the reasons that GitHub is not for beginners:-

• If you are a beginner then you can easily get confused while using GitHub.

• To understand it properly takes time and a lot of practice.

• If you are a Novice programmers then you do not have any experience of any use of GitHub in the practical sense.

• Learning to code is already a highly demanding task, learning GitHub on top of it is just a distraction, which doesn't have much utility to the novice programmer

All Serious Programmers Must Learn GitHub:-

YES, if you are a very serious programmer and then you must learn GitHub in your programming career. You should learn it immediately as the need arises.
