I believe we'll see a lot more vetting and systematized descriptions of the different types of data scientists (math-software, math-domain knowledge, domain knowledge-software, unicorn). We'll also likely see progress towards topological data analysis and analysis tools from fields like differential and algebraic topology with respect to algorithms and general methods in the field of data science. I guess that in ten years we’ll have had a massive influx of people that studied it for the money rather than passion and are now struggling to find work, and we’ll have seen a common acceptance by the business community that it is significant and should be taught to all graduates rather than outsourced to specialists.
