Tableau supports many files format like (txt, csv, excel, pdf, json, statistical, spatial etc). Tableau can also be connected to different types of servers like Amazon Redshift, Microsoft SQL server, MySQL and Oracle etc. tableau has more number of options while connecting to data source as compare to any other business intelligence tool that's the reason why most of the business analyst, data analyst or data scientist prefer this tool over any other tool. Below are the steps to connect the csv file to tableau:

Step 1: Open your Tableau Desktop application from there you will see the options to connect to a file or connect to a server, So click on more under To  file as shown below

Step 2: Once you click on the more option then new window will pop up, then select the file type that you want to connect. In this we want to connect to csv file so select csv file format

Step 3: Once you select the file format and file click on open then you will see your data will get imported in Tableau Desktop and you can use that data for your interactive visualizations.

If you want to learn tableau from basic to advance level then you can check learn tableau

If you also want to learn Tableau and make your career in it then I would suggest you must take up the following Tableau Certification course online.
