Why scale data in Machine Learning?

Can anyone tell me why to scale the data in Machine Learning?

Scaling is done in machine learning so that features in our data with different ranges i.e. (lowest and highest values) can be normalized so that onde features values do not start greatky affetcting the model being trained.
