Could someone tell me when to use and when not to use Tableau?

Tableau is a data visualization tool that analyses data to create interactive dashboards that could be consumed by non-technical members to understand the insight inferred from it.

Tableau is much more than a spreadsheet, if it's being used just like a spreadsheet, then it is being under-utilized and professionals are not utilizing the tableau’s real capabilities to analyze, visualize, and create dashboards from the raw data.
