Docker is an open-source and free project for automating the deployment of applications that runs these on portable containers which are self-sufficient and are capable to run on-premise or on the cloud.
Docker does work on Windows too. But docker image containers could run on Windows and Linux both, but Windows images could only run-on Windows hosts but a Linux host could run on both Windows and Linux hosts.
