- Acquiring a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field will prove to be an advantage for you. And even if you have a different degree in different discipline, don’t worry, most of these degrees have transferable skills which could enable you to apply for a cybersecurity specialist role or if not you could go for apprenticeships and get certified from even Microsoft.
- After you graduate, you have two options, go out into the job market directly, or go for a master's in the domain. The most preferred option is to opt for a job, as that would enable you to get trained real-time environment and would acquire enough skills to meet the requirements for the certifications faster than a master's completed candidate. But going for the masters shows you have the required knowledge required to meet the different needs of the different organizations.
- Pursue internships, bootcamps, certifications to add extra skillsets to your portfolio, that would enable you to have an edge over your fellow aspirants. Some of the certifications which you could add to your profile that you could improve your chances to become a cybersecurity specialist:
- CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), CISSP (Certified Information System Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), etc.
