There isn’t a predefined career path on how to become a cybersecurity expert, but there definitely is some recommended to-do list according to Indeed.com:

1. Acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity or more conventional fields like Computer Science and engineering, information management systems, etc. As this cybersecurity program is relatively new. 
2. Pursue internships for gaining on-field experience and improving networking skills with other IT professionals.
3. Do a Cyber Security course at the beginning to ace your career or check out these Cyber Security Certifications by Intellipaat.
4. Obtaining other industry-recommended certifications will help you in growing in your career and they are available at each stage of the career, starting with beginner foundational level CompTIA Security+, for intermediate level, you could be a Certified Ethical Hacker by clearing CEH exams after doing an Ethical Hacking course online.
5. For the Advanced level you have CISM- (Certified Information Security Manager) and for the experts, there is an exam called CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), which could be cracked with CISSP training.
6. Gaining skillsets in Security Testing and Auditing, Security Risk management and control, Security Intrusion Detection, Vulnerability assessment will give a huge boost to your career along with handsome pay.
