Linux distribution or “Distro” as it is commonly known, is an OS made from an already existing Linux kernel. Since Linux is free and open-source, its code is available for free and without paying a penny you could have it for free which you could even manipulate according to your need. There are various “Distros” (Linux Distributions) that are available out there, like Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, etc. that are used around the globe for their major advantage over Windows.
