Could someone tell me why Linux is free?

Linux is free! And it is a fact. You literally don’t need to spend a penny to own or use Linux. It's open-source and free since its inception; 1991. Linux is everywhere from your computers, mobile phones, TV, speaker, electronic devices, cars, refrigerator, other home appliance, even all the top 500 supercomputers too. So, the real question you should be asking is how is Linux still free even though many developers are still contributing to keeping Linux as updated and functional as ever?

Let me give you the explanation for that in short; What will you do, if you are producing certain appliances that solely run-on Linux. You will surely keep Linux updated to meet the newer demands, right? Because Linux is free and open-source, to start with, you must invest in it, to reap its long-term benefits. These companies all pay developers to contribute to Linux, among other companies.
