In Hadoop, the node which keeps record of the most recent checkpoint in a directory with respect to the directory of the NameNode is known as the Checkpoint directory. Intervals are created at regular spaces with the help of the downloaded edits and fsi image and this information is merged locally. When the changes have been made locally, the new image is updated back to the NameNode.
