We have implemented a task in Hive which is working fine on single node cluster. We are planning to deploy it on AWS. If we plan to deploy it then what should be chosen Amazon EC2 or Amazon EMR? We want to improve the performance of task. Which one is better and reliable? How to approach towards them? Found that, we can also register our VM setting as it is on AWS. Is it possible?

AWS EMR is the collection of EC2 instances with Hadoop. And optionally Hive and/or Pig installed and configured. If you are using your cluster for running Hadoop/Hive/Pig jobs, EMR would be the best option. An EMR instance costs a little bit more when compared to an EC2 instance.  To save yourself from the hassle of installing, setting up Hadoop, creating & maintaining AMI and using it, it's totally worth paying extra money. If you are using EC2, you will probably be using Apache Hadoop and Hive. And wouldn't have access to those patches like native support for S3 or few commands.
