Should you to shut down an Azure VM to back up?

I have some virtual machines which are in running state and I want to take a backup as per a schedule. So, Can I able to do that safely without shutdown the Virtual machines?

Yes, now you can able to take a backup of IaaS VMs even if they are in running state.
