Data Science involves the use of mathematical, and statistical techniques and algorithms to gather data from various reliable sources to generate actionable insights. Data Science demands versatility in various disciplines:

  • Programming skills: Python or R

  • Big Data Hadoop

  • Machine Learning and AI

  • Statistics

  • Linear Algebra

  • SQL Database/Coding

  • Apache Spark

  • Multivariable Calculus

  • Data Visualization

  • Communication

Data Analysis, on the other hand, involves the examination, transformation, and arrangement of a given set of data in specific ways for the study of its individual parts and extraction of useful information. Data Analysis is a subset of Data Analytics, which is a much broader term. Here are the skills you will need:

  • R or Python-Statistical Programming

  • Data processing platforms: Hadoop and Apache Spark

  • SQL

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Data Visualization

  • Machine Learning

So, depending on what skills you are best suited for, you can decide whether Data Science is for you or Data Analysis.
