Here are the steps to create donut chart in Tableau:
Step 1: Create a pie chart
- Open Tableau Desktop. Connect to Superstore sample data.
- Under Marks, select the Pie mark type.
- Drag Customer Segment to Color.
- Drag Sales to Size.
- Click Label. Select Show mark labels.
- Resize the pie chart as desired.
Step 2: Switch to the dual-axis chart
- Drag Number of Records to Rows.
- Drag Number of Records to Rows again.
- On Rows, do the right-click on the instances of Number of Records. Then, select Measure (Sum) > Minimum.
- On Rows, do the right-click for the second instance of Number of Records. Then, select Dual Axis.
Step 3: Modify the second pie chart to a circle
- In the Marks card, click MIN(Number of Records) (2).
- Remove Customer Segment from Color.
- Remove Sales from Size.
- Click Color. Choose the same color as the background. In this example, click white.
- Click Size. Drag the slider to the left to change the circle smaller.
- Drag Sales to Label.
- Right-click on each of the axes. Uncheck Show Header.
