What exactly is the role of availability sets in azure?

The availability set provides business continuity and high availability in Microsoft azure. If there are multiple resources in an availability set then if one of them fails then the others will provide the service. 

Supposing we have server A and server B in the same availability set. Then,  If I have deployed a website using these two servers in case server A fails, Server B will provide the backup instantly.
