1. Tableau Desktop

2. Tableau Public

3.Tableau Online

4. Tableau Server and Tableau Reader

  • Tableau Desktop has rich feature set and also it allows you to code in R as well as python and customize reports.
  • In Tableau public, the workbooks created can’t be saved locally in the system like .twbx format, it would be saved to the Tableau's public cloud which can be viewed and accessed by anyone which is not secure for any personal work but it can be used for practice.
  • Tableau server is mainly used to share the workbooks, visualizations, Dashboards that are created in the Tableau Desktop application across the organization.
  • Tableau online and Tableau Server has similar functionalities, but the data is stored on servers and hosted in the cloud. And it is maintained by the Tableau group.
  • In Tableau Reader, which is a free tool and allows you to view the workbooks and visualizations that are created in Tableau Desktop or Tableau Public.
  • Tableau connects and extracts the data stored in various places. It can pull data from any platform like excel, Azure, SQL, csv, txt and others.
