What is variance in Machine Learning?

Can anyone tell me what is variance in machine learning?

Variance is a measure to understand whether the model performs well only on the trained dataset or on a dataset that has not trained also. This could be a different dataset from the testing dataset or the validation dataset. High variance implies overfitting and that the model is picking up noise present in the training dataset.
