NIST or National Institute of Standards and Technology is an agency which works under the US Department of Commerce. Within the NIST, its Computer Security Division provided characteristics of cloud computing as:

• On-demand self-service.
• Broad Network access.
• Rapid Elasticity.
• Resource pooling.
• Measured service.
