Whether Tableau is necessary for data science or not, let’s find that out:

A Data Scientist is the one who collects extremely large sets of data, analyze, and then interprets them in a meaningful way to support all forms of decisions making process, in both business and organizational level.

Tableau is an industry renowned data visualization software that focuses on providing an interactive platform for visualizing the gained insights for a more informed decision-making process. Now, the answer to your query is, yes and not really both. Because Tableau is a data visualization software and data visualization are just a part of a data scientist’s work, that’s not their main task. If you are a data scientist who is already working in pressure situations and find a lack of time, then you could use Tableau for visualizations and save yourself time from coding for EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis).

But again, it depends on the organization you are working for also, if they use Tableau for their visualization needs then it becomes necessary for you to adapt, otherwise it depends on your wish and interest.
