Yes! You could switch from a humanities background to data science. Humanities is completely different from Data Science, but since data science deals with data, it is related to every field. If you are someone with Non-technical background like Humanities and want to switch and prosper in the domain of data science, then you must have the required skill sets listed below:

  1. A sound knowledge if not expert level in mathematics. Topics like linear algebra, calculus, statistics are very important.
  2. A good programming language is a must for a good data science job. You could learn Python or R for that.
  3. Good research skills, business know-how will surely transform your career.
  4. Analytical skills are a must if you want to switch your career. Along with problem-solving, and good communication is some essential soft-skills to prosper in your career.

To get you started with all these join some bootcamps, do some apprenticeships, internships, do some projects to hone your skills, get certified. In this regard, I would recommend you to take up the Data Science courses from Intellipaat, which offers you instructor-led course and guided projects to build your practical exposure.

Meanwhile, get started with your switch by watching our latest YouTube video on Data Science for Non-Technical Background.
