R was developed as a user-friendly way of performing statistical analysis and graphical modelling. So, R is more suited for statistical data analysis. But, Python was developed as general-purpose-programming language with the purpose of increasing code readability, which can perform same amount of tasks compared to R. Python offers a wide range of libraries with packages for Data Analysis and Machine Learning. Another important point we can't ignore that R is believed to be slower than python in data processing.

Python can be integrated with web using Django Framework. Also Python has a great community to back it up. So these are a few reasons which gives Python edge over R making it it even more popular among the community.
