Hadoop is an open-source data platform or framework developed in Java, which is dedicated to storing and analyzing large sets of unstructured data, i.e., Big Data. Hadoop comprises two main components at its core, namely, HDFS and MapReduce.

  • HDFS stands for the Hadoop Distributed File System and is responsible for the efficient, fault-tolerant storage of huge amounts of data across large distributed clusters.
  • MapReduce is the processing framework of Hadoop and is responsible for parallel computation.
