What is the difference between an API App and a Web App?

Question

Can anyone help me to distinguish between API app and Web App and where to use which services? As I can able to create a new .net application with API controllers and then can deploy it into web app, then why to go for API app?

Earlier, there was a difference between different app services but nowadays, it is no longer true. As per some document provided by Microsoft, it states that the only difference is the name and icon. So, it's upto you which app service you want to used.
